First, we start with a new DELL dual core system. With 1 GB of RAM, a 256 MB video card and a 17" flat panel monitor.
The computer is preconfigured as follows:
All software not required for training is removed. The Windows settings for the training class are optimized.
Specialized software is added for remote access maintenance, if required.
Security software that blocks everything that the student should not access is added.
Since the student needs access to the training web site, all access to any web site except those required for training are blocked. Even links away from approved web sites are blocked.
Students cannot send or receive email, files, or viruses from the computer.
Running programs from any externally attached devices including thumb drives, CD's, network drives, or any removable media is blocked.
The CD drive and all unneeded ports on this computer are disabled. The only port you could use is the headphone port.
Only programs previously installed on the computer are allowed to be ran. Any attempt to install a new program is blocked. All previously installed programs such as solitaire and other accessories are blocked.
All links to Control Panel, My Computer, Network access, Computer Administration, My Documents, or any similar link is removed. Saving of files to the computer is prevented.
When the student clicks on the Start Menu Icon, the only option available is Log Off or Shut Down. To start the class there is a link on the desktop taking them to the login area of the web site.
As a final security measure any and all changes to the computer are wiped clean every time the student logs off or if the computer is idle for more than two hours. For this reason the student should not abandon the training for an extended period of time, while using this computer.
The computer would arrive ready to plug into the wall the only thing required on your end, is an electrical outlet and a wired connection to your router or server that provides your Internet connection using DHCP and Windows Networking Protocol. This computer cannot see your companies other computers.
